Best Out Of Waste

We have all heard of composting. It was taught to us in school. Ever wondered how powerful that concept is? It is so simple and easy to implement and can make such a huge impact on the environment. All it requires is that you dump your organic waste into a compost pit and see it transform into healthy manure.

If you are still clueless, meet the Daily Dump. It is a Bangalore based organization that helps you set up the composting in your house. After the setup is done, they can even do ‘crisis visits’ to your compost corner to keep a check on it, to ensure that all is ok. They even do compost demos to explain how you can do it better.

And what’s more, if you make the manure and you don’t know how to use it, they will buy it from you!

Now there’s no reason why you should not have a compost corner at home. To start with, you can get terracotta composters that have holes for ventilation. These are available with the Daily Dump. All you have to do is, learn how to churn the organic waste and keep adding your everyday organic waste to it. If the composter breaks, you can replace it with a new one through the Daily Dump.

“Some customers have given up mid-way. So our offer is that if you have stopped for some reason and want to begin and have a composter at home, we will come and help you restart free of charge.”, says Poonam Kasturi, the founder of The Daily Dump.

Her curiousness to do things differently and in a fresh way led her to start this initiative. She says, “I wanted to do something where I could apply all the ideas that seemed to cry out in my head for action.” The urban areas, full of filth and garbage, got her thinking and that’s when she got the idea of ‘home composting’.

“By doing this simple act, each of us can reduce the amount of waste we throw out every day, by 60%. So I decided to begin here.”

Today Daily Dump is present is 16 different locations apart from Bangalore, which includes Delhi, Kochi, Chandigarh, Pune, Coimbatore, Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad, Chennai, Brazil and Chile.

In addition to all the services that they provide, they offer a range of products, for composting and gardening, which you can buy from them. There are various shapes, styles and designs for the composters that you can choose from.  You can buy these products from the retail outlets or external online portals (details on their website). They also offer an open-source platform for others to use the knowledge and build on it. They are slowly developing into a community of domain experts who have relevant on-ground experience.

Composting existed since time immemorial. It is a natural process which the Daily Dump has just modified a little and designed the ecology of the business model to suit the cultural, social and behavioral needs in the Indian context.

Home composting can be done easily by anyone for their house, building or even the housing society – just by using the proper composting equipment (find more details in the Garden Tower review by Compost Bin HQ).  It is a great way to conserve nature, without waiting for the government to implement it.

You'd still be quick but not as quick as your answers for the former question. Was that simple? How about, name a few rather absurd sources of energy?
